THE corridors of a school in the Clay Country were transformed into a gallery for a World Art Day event.

Families and friends gathered to celebrate the creative talents of the children of St Stephen Churchtown Academy in St Stephen.

A school spokesperson said: “The open gallery event, themed around Cornwall, offered a stunning visual journey through the region’s landscapes, legends and coastal life - all brought to life through the pupils’ artwork.

“The event was organised by Lenka Kempna, art lead across the school, whose passion and dedication helped turn a simple idea into a truly memorable occasion.

“From hand-drawn fishing villages to textured seascapes and clay sculptures, every piece reflected the children’s imagination and pride in their Cornish heritage.

“Soft strains of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons played in the background, adding a calm and classical atmosphere that perfectly complemented the artwork.

“Refreshments were provided by the ever-supportive FOSSCA (Friends of St Stephen Churchtown Academy), giving families a chance to enjoy a cuppa while taking in the creativity on display.

“Many parents were visibly moved by what they saw. One visitor commented: ‘The ambience of the music and the atmosphere was lovely. I enjoyed the quality of the work and the coastal theme - it really captured the essence of Cornwall.’

“Another visitor said: ‘It was amazing to see all the children's artwork. Their creativity and effort really shone through.’

“The evening was more than just an art show - it was a celebration of community, culture and the power of young voices expressed through art. Staff members beamed with pride as children eagerly pointed out their pieces to parents and grandparents.”

Mrs Kempna said: “It’s so important to give children opportunities to express themselves and to feel proud of their work. Seeing so many families come to celebrate that was really special.”
