A popular brewery and hotel has submitted plans to demolish its existing shop and staff accommodation and replace it with a new building to provide extra facilities.

Driftwood Spars Hotel has applied for planning permission for the development at its St Agnes base.

Under the proposals the hotel would demolish the existing timber frame building which dates from the 1920s and replace it with a new building which would have an additional first floor to bring it to the same roof height as the brewery next door.

The new building would have a shop and tasting area and upstairs would have staff accommodation. A design and access statement explains that the current building has potential for collapse and requires replacing.

Documents state: “The proposal is part of an ongoing investment programme that the owner of the Driftwood Spars is making. It shows a commitment to both the community and customers.

“The additional offering of tasting rooms, provision of staff accommodation and additional accommodation for guests will help reinforce an established business and create additional employment.

"The design takes its lead from the original painted boarded building and is respectful of the height of the adjacent Brewery building.”
