COUNCILLORS have backed plans to expand a doctor’s surgery in Newquay.

Newquay Town Council’s planning committee has voted to support Newquay Health Centre’s proposal to provide two new consulting rooms due to the benefits the scheme would bring to the area.

The scheme also involves internal works to convert the existing medical records room within the roof space into office space including the installation of new roof lights as well as the replacement of the existing draught lobby at the main entrance with a new version to improve disability access and flow.

The town council committee said: “Councillors welcomed the improvements proposed for the main entrance whilst being satisfied there would be very little change to the exterior of the building.

“The addition of roof lights is considered highly unlikely to impact neighbouring dwellings.

“Councillors did query the absence of renewable energy sources on the plans, but were reassured by the applicant that photovoltaic systems are already in place on the building.”

Cornwall Council is due to have the final say on the plans.
