A local MP has paid a visit to a new housing development in Cornwall.
Truro and Falmouth MP Jayne Kirkham has visited Barratt Homes’ Pen Bethan development in Falmouth to see progress on site and learn more about how the housebuilder is supporting the delivery of housing across Cornwall.
Jayne Kirkham toured the development with Rob Hart, managing director of Barratt Homes Bristol, Ryan Lee, construction director, and Shaun Marsden, site manager at Pen Bethan, who recently received a Seal of Excellence Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC) in recognition of his outstanding work.
During the visit, Jayne and the group discussed Barratt Homes’ ongoing efforts to integrate the new neighbourhood into the wider Falmouth community, including initiatives to help local people stay in the area through schemes such as the Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme and through the delivery of 47 affordable homes onsite, in partnership with LiveWest.
Jayne also heard how Barratt Homes is future-proofing new homes by building to enhanced energy efficiency standards under the updated Part L Building Regulations, which improve performance, cut carbon emissions, and help homeowners save hundreds of pounds on energy bills.
Jayne Kirkham MP said: “It was great to meet Shaun and the rest of the Barratt Homes team on site. It’s fantastic to see good new homes being built, including a good proportion of social housing, in Falmouth, and to know that local priorities are being delivered from affordable housing to sustainability and skills. Shaun’s recognition from the NHBC is well deserved, I enjoyed looking around the new homes.”
Rob Hart, managing director at Barratt Homes Bristol, added: “We were delighted to welcome Jayne to Pen Bethan and showcase the great work being done by Shaun and the team. We’re committed to delivering high-quality, sustainable homes that meet local needs and support communities across Cornwall.”
Set within 2.2 acres of open space, Pen Bethan offers a mix of two, three, and four-bedroom homes, just three miles from Falmouth town centre.
The development includes a new children’s play area and 1.4 acres of biodiversity-enhanced landscaping, featuring over 100 new trees, 5,900 hedgerow saplings, and bee-friendly planting to support local wildlife.
