A special concert held in Newquay has raised nearly £1,000 to help children affected by the war in Ukraine.

Newquay Male Voice Choir and guests Ukrainian Harmony, a Ukrainian Refugee Women’s Choir, performed at St Michael’s Church in aid of Helping Children of Ukraine charity.

Jim Christophers, the co-chairman of Newquay Male Voice Choir, said: “Everyone agreed that the two choirs complemented one another beautifully with the power and passion of Cornish male voice choir singing sitting well alongside songs reflecting the culture and heritage of Ukraine. In between Oll an Gwella brought their own style to a set of pieces linking the two communities together. Newquay MVC particularly would like to thank Newquay Lions Club for making their minibus available to transport Ukrainian Harmony after their own transport broke down just before leaving St Austell.”

Newquay Male Voice Choir’s next concert will be its Grand Three-choir Charity Concert in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care, Mount Edgcumbe Hospice.

They will be joined by Marazion Apollo Male Choir and Tintagel Orpheus Male Voice Choir for the concert, which will be held in St Michael’s Church on July 14 at 7pm.

There is a cost for entry and there will be a raffle and a retiring collection in aid of the charity.
