THE community has rallied to buy a Newquay boy a new bike after his birthday money was stolen at his party.

Stanley Rossborough, aged 10, was left devastated after it was discovered the cash had been taken from his party room at the Newquay Trampoline Park on Sunday, June 8. He had been planning on put this money towards his ‘dream’ BMX.

Kelly Hill, the landlady of the Tavern Inn, decided to buy Stanley the bike after hearing what happened, which she presented to him at the annual TavFest on Saturday.

Stanley’s mother Natalie set up a GoFundMe after receiving dozens of offers of help, which raised £430. She donated £200 of the money raised to TavFest’s chosen charity, which is Newquay Foodbank.

Natalie said: “Stanley was speechless after being presented the bike. He rode off straight away. He was so happy.

“I would like to thank everyone for their kind gestures, thoughtful words, and generous donations. What began as an awful and upsetting incident has turned into a heartwarming and uplifting experience, thanks to people’s incredible support and the amazing community spirit.

“On the day I had 200 people or more messaging saying they wanted to make a donate to replace the money stolen.

“Then the landlady of the Tavern said she has a surprise for Stanley at TavFest.

“Kelly has done so many for charity over the years and she deserves recognition for what she does for the community. Waterworld has been in touch and refunded us for our party and have apologised for the incident.

“While we may never find out who was responsible, it’s comforting to know that there are still such kind and generous people out there.”

A police spokesperson said: “We were notified following a report of money being stolen from a room at a business premises in Trenance Lane, Newquay on Sunday, June 8.

“It was reported a quantity of cash was taken from a bag. Enquiries are ongoing.”
