A community garden in Newquay is set to be spruced up after funding was secured.
Crantock Street Community Garden committee will receive the grant from Cornwall Council through a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
Chairman Anna Jay says the funding announcement will enable the group to progress with its £150,000 redevelopment scheme, which has been designed by award winning landscape gardener Kim Parish from Landscapes of Distinction.
The much-needed makeover involves levelling out the site and installing a planting scheme, benches and various planters.
More than £10,000 has also been raised for the garden scheme through a Crowdfunder.
Ms Jay said: “Two years of blood, sweat and tears have gone into the planning, design phase and immense application process to secure CIL funding for the redevelopment of the space.
“There are stipulations and we'll be meeting to review the agreement and requirements and to discuss the plan and timetable going forward.
“But we will be celebrating this huge win of up to £100,000 funding from Cornwall Council Community Infrastructure Levy, which means we can progress with our plans to make the garden a wonderful, colourful, safe space for everyone to enjoy.”
Kim Parish said: “I have spent over 16 years wanting to see this potentially amazing space reach its full potential. It was one of hundreds of areas that I indirectly oversaw the maintenance for when I worked for Restormel but there was no funding to undertake the work needed to make it fully usable.
“I was delighted two and a half years ago when Crantock Street Community Garden approached me for an initial discussion. We talked about what an incredible space this could be and my advice was let’s reach for the stars and scale back if we need to. We produced a site community brief, and I took great joy in creating the design and subsequent planting plan.
“The dedication, resourcefulness and the hard work of the incredible group has seen the space become loved and used working around the hazards. It has taken a huge amount of work and support from other to be awarded the funding.
“I am incredibly proud to have been part of this from the start and in full admiration of the dedicated group for achieving the funding. This is going to be a remarkable area.”
An annual Big Lunch event is held at Crantock Community Garden, which brings the community together to share food and enjoy each other’s company.
Cornwall Council in a letter to Ms Jay said: “All projects received were considered to be good community infrastructure projects.
“This was a competitive application process with projects scored against a range of criteria, resulting in some difficult decisions having to be made.
“However, I am pleased to advise that your application has been successful, and your project has been awarded £100,000 of CIL funding subject to the condition that the CIL awarded would be reduced by any additional funding secured that is currently outstanding in funding applications.”
