A HUGE new ‘logistics warehouse’ will provide 180 full-time jobs and boost the Cornish economy by over £10 million annually if approved, according to the company which has unveiled the proposal. Residents, businesses and community groups have been invited to share their views on the development before a planning application is submitted to Cornwall Council next month.

The proposed warehouse would be over 10,000 sq metres in size and operate 24/7 as a regional hub for last-stage parcel deliveries, improving delivery efficiency. The site – near Chiverton Cross junction on the A30 – will “support Cornwall’s growing demand for logistics and distribution services, enabling sustainable regional economic growth and strengthening Cornwall’s logistics network,” according to a spokesperson for the mooted project.

The site has been identified as an accessible and strategically located area, benefiting from its proximity to the A30 and A390. A spokesperson for PMK Consult, which is presenting the plan, said the proposals will deliver significant economic and employment benefits for the local area, including:

* Approximately 180 full-time jobs;

* An annual £10.8 million boost to Cornwall’s economy in Gross Value Added;

* Around £155,000 per year in business rates, helping Cornwall Council to fund local services and infrastructure.

A public consultation, launching on Friday (November 14), provides an opportunity for people to learn more about the plans and provide feedback before a planning application is submitted to Cornwall Council in December. A drop-in event will be held at Truro City Football Club, Truro Sports Hub, Threemilestone on Tuesday, November 18, from 4pm to 7pm. It will be an opportunity to find out more about the plans, speak directly with members of the project team and share feedback in person.

The spokesperson said: “This proposal represents a significant investment in Cornwall’s future. Cornwall Council has identified logistics as a crucial sector to enable the county’s economic growth and our proposals respond to this directly. A logistics warehouse at Chiverton Cross will create jobs, boost local supply chains and support the county’s growing logistics and e-commerce sectors.

“We know how important it is that new developments reflect local priorities and we want to ensure this scheme delivers real benefits for nearby communities as well as the wider region. We encourage everyone to come along to our drop-in event or take part online to share their views before we finalise the plans.”

Feedback on the proposals can be submitted at chivertoncross.co.uk. The consultation will remain open until December 4.
