THE mighty Cribbar reef break awoke from its slumber on Sunday morning.
Five surfers including Tom Major, Pete McNicol and Owen Stoneman rode the huge walls of water, which were estimated to be more than 12 foot high.

Brave surfers tackle the Cribbar (Picture: Geoff Tydeman)
Only a small group of people gathered at the Towan Headland to watch the drama due to the rainy weather.
Surf photographer Geoff Tydeman who captured the action said: “I got a message from Tom Major the previous day saying he was going to the Cribbar on Sunday morning.
“After checking the weather forecast I knew it was going to rain the whole session and correspondingly the light would be very poor for photography, but I kitted out in all my wet weather gear and took a couple of plastic bags to cover the camera if the rain came down very heavily.
“I met Tom Major and Pete McNichol in the Little Fistral car park and watched them paddle out. After walking out to the end of Towan Headland and setting up the camera I noticed three other surfers paddling out to join Tom and Pete but I only recognised one of them as Owen Stoneman, the other two names are still a mystery to me.
“After two hours on the headland and a satisfactory bag of photos it was time to dodge the next tranche of rain that I spotted heading our way so I made a beeline back to the car and left before getting the names of the two mystery surfers.”
