Beachgoers are saddened to see a dolphin had washed up on Fistral Beach on Monday.
The dolphin, believed to be a striped dolphin, had what looked like rake marks down its body.
Members of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust's Marine Strandings Network tagged the dolphin ahead of the animal being removed and a biopsy being carried out to determine the cause of its death.
Beachgoers spotted the dolphin had ‘disease risk’ written on its tag and warned others to keep clear of the animal.
Ruth Williams, a marine conservation manager at the trust, said it is sadly not uncommon for animals to wash up on beaches around Cornwall at this time of the year.”
The stranding of the dolphin follows a 16 metre Fin Whale being washed up at Fistral Beach on Wednesday, November 15.
The beach was closed and a police cordon was put in place ahead of the whale being removed by diggers to be disposed of.
