AN animal sanctuary has launched a fundraising appeal after some of its facilities were destroyed by Storm Goretti earlier this.
Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary based near Ruan Minor on the Lizard Peninsula is raising money to cover the cost of replacing the storm-damaged structures and restoring safe shelter across the site.
The sanctuary, which cares for more than 70 animals, many having suffered as a result of cruelty, sickness or neglect, relies entirely on public donations and fundraising and is run by a small team of staff and volunteers.
Storm Goretti tore through the 30-acre site in January “like a hurricane” according to staff, flattening three field shelters, a stable for goats and a section of brand new fencing which was only completed last summer.

Louise Coad, Charity Administrator at Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary, said: “Storm Goretti caused extensive damage to a number of our field shelters, with some completely destroyed by the high winds. These shelters are important in giving our rescued horses and ponies protection from the worst of the weather when they are out in the fields. As a small, self-funded charity, the cost of replacing them is significant, which is why we launched a fundraising appeal to help cover the repairs. We’re very grateful to Classic Cottages for their generous support and donations like this make a real difference to the animals in our care.”
Classic Cottages has donated £500 towards the appeal.
Dominique Adams from Classic Cottages, said: “Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary does wonderful work providing a safe and loving home for rescued animals in Cornwall.
“When we heard about the damage caused by Storm Goretti and the appeal to fund replacement shelters, we were keen to help. We hope our contribution supports the ongoing repairs and encourages others to get behind the sanctuary’s fundraising efforts.”
Anyone wishing to support the appeal can donate via its GoFundMe page.
