The Redruth Local Hero Awards took place at Penventon Park Hotel last week in a celebration that honours those who have made a significant difference in their community.  

A wide range of categories were available for nominees who have made a massive difference to others’ lives and helped make their community a better place to live.

This year saw the highest number of nominations to date with residents, businesses and community group that all deserved an award.  

The list of winners from the numerous awards:  

  • Volunteer of the Year Award – Nigel Jeffery 
  • Young Person of the Year – Freya Rose 
  • Environment and Climate Change Hero – Rubbish Robbers 
  • Good Neighbour – Dave Beadnell-Smith 
  • Best Community Project – Bethel Community Larder 
  • Sportsperson of the Year – Kim Thomas 
  • Best New Local Business – Red Pottery Gallery 
  • Best Green Business – The Grow Box Café 

Attendees were treated to a two-course dinner and the evening was hosted by Rewind Radio’s Richard Woods and Theresa Mellor.

During proceedings there were recognition speeches from town mayor Stephen Barnes and Redruth Council’s new town clerk Charlotte Caldwell.

After the trophies, which were curated by Sharon Sullivan Ceramics, were handed out, guests took to the dance floor to enjoy music provided by DJ Ryan Woods.
